A Little Better, I Guess

I thought I’d get smart and not attempt the four different colorways in one afternoon. So I got smart and did five in one afternoon. I’m not kidding. But, four out of the five were one color, kettle-dyed deals that made things easier. (It just took almost half-an-hour apiece.)

I found a nice tutorial on another site that showed a fun way of “dyeing in the wool.” Which means that you dye the wool either right off the sheep, or after it’s been washed, but BEFORE it is carded or made into roving. As you can see, the results are gorgeous.

The hard part comes when I try to spin what I’ve carded. I haven’t learned how to spin from a batt, and the “rolag” that some tutorials have you make from the carded wool is very close to a batt. I wonder if you’re supposed to unroll it later. Hmm. Anyway, I’ve taken to leaving the carded rectangle flat, then removing chunks of fluffiness in three to four inch sections.
