Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone. =D (Yes, a text smily face just snuck into my blog post.)

I hope your celebrations were festive and highly enjoyable.

And I totally just stayed up until the day after Christmas, scrounging around on Amazon for used price books (and a DVD) to snag with a gift card.

Did you know some used products (with the snazzy used product pricing) are eligible for Prime? I didn’t know that! My world got very much more exciting, and there’s a box on its way to my doorstep.

This Christmas has been a very special one in many ways. God has let me see Him in new ways all over it – from a little over three weeks ago when I totaled my parents’ car on a slick exit ramp, to knowing that I am very much alive and happy with what He has given me.

Again, a Merry Christmas to you all.

Christmas Time is Here

Bonus points if you’re suddenly seeing the Peanuts cartoon.

Enough is Enough

I recently came into possession of a large compilation of the works of Lewis Carroll. It’s a big, beautiful “leather” bound copy. Not so good for taking on trips, but excellent for curling up with on a gray afternoon. From my initial perusing of the new material (I’m already very familiar with the two Alice stories) I’ve come to the conclusion that Carrol can be very amusing to read, but he tends to wander off into lengthy dissertations on things in which I have little-to-no interest.

However, to get to the point, one of his shorter writings features tips on writing letters and contains this little gem: “My second Rule is, don’t fill more than a page and a half with apologies for not having written sooner!” And I have taken this to heart. I think it safe to assume that you’re fed up with my apologies for not having blogged sooner, so I will dispense with them forthwith.

I’ve been keeping pretty busy lately with various fiber projects. One of which was a large undertaking.
Eight ounces of superwash BFL fiber to be handspun and dyed for a Maiden Yarn customer. Oh my goodness – I practically had to fight off my knitting sister to keep the spun yarn. Bluefaced Leicester is rapidly elbowing its soft and lustrous way to the top of the fiber heap, so to speak. It’s simply wonderful stuff.

Merry Christmas!

Hello, everyone. I’m having a wonderful Christmas, and I hope you are too. And, while I didn’t receive any fiber-related gifts, I do have a couple of odds and ends to blog about.

First off, Nessie is done. Eyes and all. The pattern called for brown eyes, but I happened to be working with some navy yarn at the time so I just snitched a bit of it from the too-long tail of the work in progress. The recipient’s eyes are blue, so it works.

Second, I give a public thank-you to God for His blessings to me through yarn and fiber sales on Etsy. A month or so ago I was seriously thinking about pulling the plug on the whole thing, but He has sent me enough sales to make continuing worthwhile. I’m very excited about next year. I’ve got all sorts of ideas for new products, and a couple of marketing ideas as well. Look out, you may be seeing my shop on Ravelry sometime soon!

Third, I’m starting my New Year’s Dash tomorrow. Or at least, I’ll be preparing for my New Year’s Dash tomorrow. I’ll probably spend the better part of the day working on something completely non-fiber related, but I will take time to rummage through my fiber stash and see what will make the cut. I was given my favorite recording of The Wind in the Willows today, and I plan to listen to it once I get spinning.

Better Late Than . . . Late

I guess I’m officially in the doghouse. No, scratch that, I know I’m in the doghouse. I haven’t blogged a line for longer than I care to think about, and (are you ready for this?) I haven’t spun an inch since before that. Excuse me while I go collapse in a sobbing heap. This thing called life keeps interfering with my hobbies!

Not that I’m bitter, no. Life has been quite enjoyable this December. Everything from seeing the Charlie Brown Christmas to having a small live Christmas tree (both for the first time ever) has kept things lively. I hosted my first Christmas play, made my first gingerbread house, and volunteered for the first time to serve desserts at a Christmas party. (Do you sense a theme of firsts here? Well, go with that, because this is also the first time I’ve gotten so much behind on spinning and blogging!)

I haven’t gotten behind on knitting, though. Christmas knitting has skyrocketed. I made three different pairs of sock slippers for various people. (Two of those will be over dyed into different colors.)

Finally Finished

A fair portion to report on the knitting front today. I’ve finally finished that green/white dishrag that was laying about. My edging got off a bit, but that’s okay. It’s a dishrag. And it might not even make it to a dishrag. It might become a dye-rag. One never knows.

And I finished my socks! A little more exciting, definitely. They were laying about almost finished for quite a bit – I still had to weave in those pesky ends. This is the one problem with knitting and crocheting that consistently irritates me. You finally finish and suddenly there’s one more thing to do.

Anyhow, I wanted to wear them a couple of days ago, so, amazingly enough, they were finished in record time! I am not the sort of person who will wear socks with strings hanging from them in public. At home, yes. At Walmart, no.
