The End of April Photos and A Trip

So I got to the end of week four and realized that I still had three days left in the month. Of those three, I took pictures on two. And of those two, I only like the way one day turned out.

Here is my first ever cabled yarn lolling about in an abalone shell.

And this is a super close up of which I am very, very fond.

That does it for the April photos! And, while it had some highlights to it, I don’t think I’ll be doing the yarn photo a day thing again. It was a little too stressful to try to come up with the various photoshoots and actually take time to do them.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be heading off to Texas again! It dawned on me yesterday that that means I need to pick a knitting project or two to take along. I haven’t knit in what seems like a really long time. What projects do I have going, again? I remember casting the shawl back on. (And it’s still sitting in the cast on stage, by the way.) Perhaps I should take along the brown socks. . . but that’s patterned chart reading. Something simpler may be called for. Do I fight the urge to start a new project, or go with the flow?

I’ve discovered that I made a mistake in hurrying to get those batts up in the store. While I love the batts, I love creating yarns and fibers even more. I’ve gotten distracted by piles of gorgeous fluffy things to the detriment of my first love. This I have decided to change! I’m hoping to place a good sized yarn and fiber order when I get home from Texas. It’s time to rock the dye world again!

Yarn Photos – Week Four

It’s hard to believe there are only three days left in April! And, while I did forget on a couple of days this last week, I went ahead and took extra pictures to make up for them.

Here is some indigo-dyed cotton. The yarn had a very interesting texture which I wanted to capture in this close up.

This is a ball of some handspun that I made a long time ago. Quite probably with some of the first fiber I ever dyed. Lovely intense colors.

Yarn Photos – Week Three

Well, I’m actually somewhat embarrassed, but here’s last week’s offering, for what it’s worth.

Ta-da. I think I’ll go creep into a little hole now. Don’t worry. I’ll get over it eventually.

Yarn Photos – Week Two

Well, I thought I did better this last week, only to discover I had once again missed a day. Nuts. Ah well. You actually get a couple of double photos this go-round.

This pink one is hand spun sock yarn, and I took the photo at about eleven-thirty at night, due to my forgetfulness during the day. I discovered that the camera I use does not at all like taking photos that late at night. Perhaps it’s part of a camera labor union.

Since I had almost forgotten the day before, day number two’s photo was well-thought-out ahead of time. This is some plum-colored handspun that was dyed using cochineal and indigo. I thought the deep purple color would look really interesting with a glass vase, and it turns out I was right! I like it so much I wound up with two photos to show you.

Yarn Photos – Week One

Well, I’ve had a rough time remembering to take photos. I remembered three days out of five, though. Not too shabby. And I took a couple extras today to make up for the “forgets.”

First up, some of the handspun Willow yarn. I was trying to be all artsy and swoosh it around the wooden thing, but it didn’t quite live up to my swoosh standards. Forgiveable, since it was my first day doing it, and, quite technically, I’d already missed a day.

This is handspun silk (hand dyed) lolling around in some sort of flowering tree or another.
