Slight Deviation

I’ve made splendid progress on the alpaca. In fact, it’s done! Here are the lovely balls of washed yarn. They total just under eight ounces. Two ply, sport weight, very soft.

So, check off number one on the list.

And, as for number two, well . . . I finished my silk! Yes, I’m trying to distract you. Flax has rapidly lost its sparkle. I’m trying to decide whether to spend the last few days before the trip working on it, or just switch over and do something more fun. Something small. It’s not like I have a whole lot of time. Maybe I should focus on washing wool, since I completely forgot about it.

But I did finish the silk, honestly! I don’t know the yardage, but it’s a little over three ounces of blue, gray, and cream silk. Another two ply sport weight. It is unbelievably soft and squishy. I like just picking it up and smooshing it about. Gently, of course.

And I have absolutely no idea what I’ll make this into. The original idea was a crocheted shawl, but I don’t know. I don’t think there’s quite enough yarn for a good sized crocheted something. And silk is supposed to make your hair static. I have long hair, which would be constantly touching and rubbing against the silk . . . bad idea. And the color doesn’t lend itself well to a spring or summer garment. It’s much more wintery in tone.
