Rainy Day

At first I didn’t think I was going to get much done yesterday afternoon. It was rainy, and my enamel pots were still sitting out on the back porch getting soaked. I didn’t quite have the “oomph” to go and bring them in, then scrub them out and dunk all that yarn in hot water. But then it occurred to me that I couldn’t start on either of the knitting projects until the yarn had been dunked and dried, which meant get them in the water now.

So, once I got the pots ready for use I started with my newly re-claimed Rebecca yarn. The beginnings of the sweater unraveled fairly well, except for this largest skein. We call it the clown wig. I had to dunk it really well to get rid of the crinkles.

The cochineal dyed stuff gave me a bit of trouble. I changed the soak water for the sweater four or five times (one time of which was an all-night soak!) and the water still came out a pinkish red. And if I’m having this much trouble with the sweater I may want to soak the red yarn too. I just rinsed it a couple times and called it good. The sweater is about to be gently de-watered (forget “rung” or “pressed.” Much too rough on the wool.) I hope it will dry soon.

I finished spinning the merino/silk batt and almost backed out of plying it, but my knitting sister kindly explained that I might not want to try knitting with lace-weight singles the first thing out of the box. I heeded her advice and half of the yarn is plied and drying. I’ll try to finish plying the rest today.

You should have got a picture of yourself wearing the blue wig before you straightened it all out.
