A Saturday Off

I was recently able to enjoy a nice, comfortable day off. During which I took the opportunity to crochet for my life. Actually, it was a Friday evening/all day Saturday combo. On Friday, I took the 199 yards of crimson yarn, which I had hoped to make a shawl out of, and turned it into a sort of shoulder warmer. I’m hoping to get some black or brown wool and spin enough to extend it into a longer poncho thingummy. It looks a little odd now. Although it is warm.

And then on Saturday I diddled around with a novel my sister and I are working on, but I took time out to make these spiffy little wrist warmers. Granted, I’d never worn such things in all my previous existence, but I wore them after I made them and found them comfortable.

They also have the added benefit of showing off a skein of pretty yarn that was too small to do much with. The pair of them took only one hundred yards, give or take a few feet. (Feet? I thought these were for wrists, not ankles!)

I also started on a cream/teal-colored bowl and a little brown coin purse, but blame the wrist warmers, as I didn’t get either project to the “share pictures” stage. The wrist warmers insisted on being made twice because I hadn’t yet grasped the concept of trying them on as I go. (Like a pattern made to fit somebody else’s wrists will fit mine perfectly first try.) Ah well. I learned.

And here is a picture of the hat my aunt made out of the camouflage yarn.

Perfect Fit

She knitted it on double pointed needles. (Size 5 or 6.) She started at the top with 4 stitches on each needle. Then she increased at the end of each needle until she had 112 stitches. Then she switched to circular needles and knit three inches, followed by a 2 x 2 ribbing until the hat covered the ears. Finished circumference is about 21 inches.

Well, you have certainly been busy! Warm shoulders are good! And I have some very special yarn that I have put aside for wrist warmers, but they aren’t going to get made till after Christmas, I’m sure.

The camouflage hat is very pretty. Three more days and I will have a spy sending me reports and videotaping your activities!

:) Here’s the pattern I used for the wrist-warmers. It’s nice and easy.

Wait a minute, nobody said anything about video-taping! :P
